The Paper Garden

Partners Prissy, Suzann, and Tara planned to start an on-line scrapbooking company and attended the SBDC’s free Introduction to Business Ownership Seminar. In October, they also bought The Paper Garden, a retail store where they offer classes and a selection of scrapbooking supplies. These business owners said that the information they learned during the IBO seminar was very useful to them when starting their businesses.

Put it in the Pickle Jar

The basis of the "Pickle Jar Theory" of time management is picking specific time slots during the day when you’ll get your most important goals handled. "You make that time commitment and stick to it no matter what," says Jeremy Wright, CEO of b5media. Every morning, pick the three most important tasks you want to accomplish that day and schedule a block of time to meet your goals. Then, close your door, turn off your phone and close your e-mail, so your full attention can be dedicated to those tasks.
