Lela Wilson has a 17 year history in the skin care treatment industry and the resume to back up her experience. Over this time she has seen a decline in customer service and availability of services offered to Amarillo customers. Her clientele began encouraging her to start her own spa, so Lela contacted the Small Business Development Center for assistance.  She is now open in a new location with a skin care treatment spa that offers the latest in skin care technology including additional spa services in a unique boutique setting.

The Amarillo Enterprize Challenge is a program funded by Amarillo Economic Development Corporation and managed by the Enterprise Network which is designed to assist entrepreneurs in launching new businesses or expanding existing ones. The awards are grants, not loans, and they don't have to be paid back. The money can be used for any purpose, as long as it stays within the business. Notary SealAssumed Name Services

The SBDC is cooperating with County Clerks in our 26 county service area to help business owners submit their Assumed Name Certificate, also known as a DBA (doing business as), for filing at the county level.

A DBA is the name of a business other than the owner’s own name, or in the case of a corporation, a name that is different from the legal corporate name. If you are an individual conducting business under an "assumed" business name, i.e., one other than your own legal name, you will need to register the assumed name with the county clerk in the county where your business operates.

If you are a state chartered organization, such as a corporation or LLC, and  your business operates under a name other than its legal name (the name specified in the organizational documents), you need to file an assumed name certificate with the Secretary of State.

Also, banks generally require a DBA registration in order to open a business bank account. They will require it if you anticipate collecting money under a name other than your own name or your corporate name.

A filing fee will be charged by the county clerk involved, but the SBDC services, including the Notary services necessary to witness the certificate, are free.  Call us for more information at 806-372-5151.
