Frank & Janice Gilbert established a manufacturing business to produce pickup truck accessories in a variety of customized designs, including the Mossy OakŪ camouflage pattern.  They came to the SBDC for help with new financial sources to help fund their expansion.  We found a successful match with Texas Rural Communities, a non-profit organization supporting rural economic development.

The SBDC recommends that everyone get a copy of their own credit report.  Inaccuracies are common and can lead to an array of problems for anyone borrowing money, seeking employment, buying insurance, or renting a residence.  In today's world, active management of your personal credit will lower your living costs, and plays a critical role in your ability to successfully operate a business.

Red flags for those who read credit reports include:
bullet

Too many accounts

bullet

Late payments

bullet

Tax liens

bullet

Bankruptcy

bullet

Maxed out credit

bullet

Too many "hard" inquiries

For more information, read How Lenders Interpret Your Credit Report.

To dispute inaccuracies, use a credit report dispute form (pdf 28K)
